Wedi blynyddoedd yn canu ar hyd a lled y de-orllewin mewn nosweithiau llawen ac eisteddfodau lleol, gofynnwyd i Siwan Morris a Siân Wyn o bentref Saron ger Rhydaman os byddai diddordeb ganddynt mewn recordio albwm ar gyfer y label Recordiau Arwydd.

Heb unrhyw brofiad o ganu mewn grŵp ‘pop’, na heb enw i’r grŵp, roedd y ddwy’n gyndyn i dderbyn y cynnig ar y dechrau, ond wedi cryn annog gan eu dilynwyr, cytunodd y ddwy fynd i stiwdio’r label yn haf 1974 i dorri eu disg gyntaf.

Ond, roedd angen enw ar y grŵp, ac wrth basio trwy bentref arall o’r enw Saron yn Sir Gaernarfon ar y ffordd i’r stiwdio, daeth y syniad o enwi’r grŵp yn Saron, ar ôl pentref eu magwraeth. Ar y daith hon yn ogystal y cyfansoddwyd un o ganeuon enwocaf y grŵp, ‘O Saron i Saron’.

Mae bro magwraeth yn un o themâu amlycaf y record, ynghyd â natur, cariad, a Chymru – ambell waith i gyd yn yr un gân. Daw neges y geiriau’n fyw trwy ganeuon megis ‘Pan Ddaw’r Dydd’, ‘Weithiau’, ac wrth gwrs, ‘Dail y Gaeaf’.

After many years spent singing across the length and breadth of the south-west in village halls and local Eisteddfodau, Siwan Morris and Siân Wyn from Saron near Ammanford were asked to record an album for Arwydd Records.

With no prior experience of singing in a ‘pop’ group, and without a name for the group, the girls were at first reluctant to accept the offer, but following much encouragement from their fans they were tempted to the studio during the summer of 1974 to cut their first record.

But, the group still needed a name, and it was while passing through another village called Saron in Caernarfonshire on the way to the studio that the idea came to name the group after their home village. It was also on this journey that their hit ‘O Saron i Saron’ (From Saron To Saron) was composed.

Roots and upbringing are important themes on the record, as are nature, love and Wales – occasionally all during the same song. The meaning of the words come alive in songs such as ‘Pan Ddaw’r Dydd’ (When The Day Comes), ‘Weithiau’ (Sometimes), and of course, ‘Dail y Gaeaf’.
